SDG Goal 4, "Quality Education", aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. This goal emphasizes the importance of providing accessible, high-quality education at all levels, from early childhood to tertiary education. By focusing on eliminating disparities in education, enhancing learning outcomes, and fostering a culture of continuous learning, Goal 4 seeks to empower individuals and communities, ultimately driving sustainable development and reducing inequality on a global scale.

Statistics of Pakistan

Literacy Rate

The literacy rate in Pakistan stands at around 59.13% as of 2023, with significant disparities between urban and rural areas, and between genders.

Out of School Children

22.8 million children aged 5-16 are out of school, representing 44% of the total population in this age group.

Primary Enrollment

10.7 million boys and 8.6 million girls are enrolled at the primary level.

Provincial Disparities

In Balochistan, 78% of girls are out of school; in Sindh, 52% of the poorest children are out of school, with 58% being girls.

Education Budget

The education budget is 2.8% of GDP, below the target of 4% (UNICEF).

Higher Education

Approximately 1.86 million students are enrolled in universities across Pakistan, with fewer females than males. Rural areas have lower university enrollment compared to urban areas.
