Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility that requires awareness, innovation, and collective action. Recognizing the importance of educating future leaders about environmental challenges and sustainable practices, UIT University organized a *Waste Management Awareness Session* to promote responsible waste management, recycling initiatives, and community engagement.
The session brought together students, faculty members, and environmental professionals for an insightful discussion on the growing importance of sustainable waste management in addressing environmental concerns and supporting long-term ecological well-being.
The event featured *Ms. Maryam Tariq, Manager Recycling & Awareness at the **Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB)*, who provided participants with an overview of waste management operations across Sindh. Her presentation highlighted the role of public institutions in waste collection, recycling programs, environmental awareness campaigns, and the challenges associated with managing increasing volumes of urban waste. Students gained valuable insights into how effective waste management systems contribute to healthier communities and more sustainable cities.
The session also welcomed *Mr. Zia Zuberi, Chief Executive Officer of **Expert Hazard Waste Management Solutions (EHWMS)*, who shared industry perspectives on hazardous waste management, recycling technologies, and innovative approaches to environmental sustainability. His discussion emphasized the importance of responsible waste disposal practices and the role of technological solutions in minimizing environmental impact while promoting resource conservation.
Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, participants developed a deeper understanding of key environmental issues, including waste segregation, recycling processes, sustainable consumption, and environmental stewardship. The session encouraged students to consider how individual actions, institutional initiatives, and community participation can collectively contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Beyond raising awareness, the event reinforced the importance of integrating sustainability into everyday practices and professional decision-making. As environmental challenges continue to grow globally, fostering awareness among students is essential for developing responsible citizens and future professionals who can contribute to sustainable development initiatives.
The Waste Management Awareness Session reflects UIT University’s commitment to promoting environmental responsibility, community engagement, and sustainability education. By creating opportunities for students to engage with experts and industry practitioners, the university continues to encourage informed dialogue and meaningful action toward building a greener and more sustainable society.
Through initiatives such as these, UIT University remains dedicated to empowering students with the knowledge and awareness needed to address contemporary environmental challenges and contribute positively to the well-being of communities and the planet.
