Introduction
Engineering Technology deals with the applied aspects of Science and Engineering related to a wide range of real-world problems.
Due to rapid changes and advancements in science and technology, the differences between engineering and engineering technology are not always clear. There is a great deal of overlap between the two fields of study. While topics of core courses in both programs seem similar, courses taught in engineering technology programs greatly impress upon the application of engineering techniques and principles, and thus produce graduates that are well-equipped with applied knowledge, hands-on skills, and experiential learning. Graduates of engineering technology programs, often called technologists, work with engineers, scientists, and technicians to form high-tech teams that produce an ever-increasing rate of technological advancement.
The engineering technology programs’ curricula are designed keeping in mind the industrial needs and latest trends in technological developments. Most importantly, students in engineering technology programs need to serve one semester in the industry as part of their degree requirement. As an outcome, the students develop not only the key transferable competencies and skills necessary for the workplace but also a network of contacts in their field before they graduate. At UITU, the Department of Engineering Technology offers the following 4-year degree programs:
- B.E. Tech (Computer)
- B.E. Tech (Software)
- B.E. Tech (Electronics)
