Recognizing the growing importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable development, UIT University has initiated a Plantation Drive as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and the creation of a greener future.
The initiative is aligned with global sustainability priorities, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and reflects the university’s efforts to encourage environmentally responsible practices and contribute to sustainable community development.
To support the initiative with technical and logistical expertise, UIT University has coordinated with Community Policing Karachi (CPK) and Rotary International District. This collaboration brings together academic, community, and social organizations around a shared commitment to environmental improvement and sustainable development.
As part of the initial planning process, Rotarian Rahat Hussain Farooqui, Chair of the Health Facilitation Committee and former President (2022–23), visited UIT University’s Gadap Land on 25 August 2026. The visit focused on assessing the suitability of the site for plantation and evaluating the availability of water resources required to support sustainable tree growth and long-term maintenance.
The site assessment represents an important step toward developing a practical and sustainable plantation plan. Considering factors such as land suitability and water availability is essential for ensuring that plantation activities can be maintained effectively over time and contribute to lasting environmental benefits.
Beyond plantation itself, the initiative aims to encourage greater awareness of environmental responsibility and demonstrate the importance of collaborative action in addressing sustainability challenges. Partnerships with community and service organizations can play a significant role in expanding the impact of environmental initiatives and encouraging collective participation.
The Plantation Drive reflects UIT University’s commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility, community engagement, and social impact. By taking practical steps toward creating greener spaces, the university continues to encourage a culture of responsible citizenship and sustainable thinking among its community.
Through initiatives such as this, UIT University seeks to contribute to a healthier environment and a more sustainable future, while strengthening partnerships that support meaningful and long-term community impact.
